Active eID users’ population has more than doubled since 2006
- When Estonia launched the ‘Computer Protection 2009’ initiative last year, there were approximately 25 000 people using the electronic functions on their ID-cards. Since then, that number has grown fast to over 60 000, and it is foreseen to reach 100 000 by the end of 2007. The new Mobile-ID (Mobiil-ID) service launched last May made a promising start with over 600 users already.

Web 2.0 And Social Networks Ripening Targets For Hackers And Fraudsters
- As George Hulme puts it, “We’re on the verge of an upswing in Web 2.0 and social networking security attacks and fraudulent scams”. This means that there is an increasing risk of malware attacks and data leakage. An example is companies that allow employees to access social networking sites through corporate computers which in turn poses a threat to corporate network security.

Government agencies establish e-collaboration security plan
- The US and UK governments have created a new e-mail specification, The Transglobal Secure Collaboration Program, to enable secure government electronic collaboration. The TSCP secure e-mail specification is a public-key infrastructure-based technology that assures the identities of authorized users by means of digital certificates that can encrypt and verify e-mail content.
